In March 2020, TonalTheory began self-releasing tracks under a personal project label, dubbed Undertone. During the early days of the lockdown, Marissa and Rae invested time finding the sound that defined Undertone and themselves as artists. This culminated in the release of their first full artist album halfway through that year.
